I live at the top of a hill a few miles from the beach. I work at the bottom of a hill a few metres from the sea. In between is the city where I grew up. I know it better than any other and yet I rarely make any photographs there at all, which seems a little odd.
Love these pics of the 'backstreets and bins' of Brighton...always my favourite parts of any town! Particularly poignant are the boarded-up shops, with the stories they hide of broken dreams.
Thank you so much Janey. As the owner of a small shop I wonder if I'm particularly drawn to the boarded up businesses as a warning about how easy it is for the dream to go wrong!
Great photo's! Nick Barkworth has a similar style based in Blackpool, maybe one to check out.
I also love how light everything is. Even if the buildings are a bit run down they still feel brightful because of the whites and creams. We don't really get that in the midlands.
Thank you Karl, and thanks for pointing me in the direction of Nick Barkworth, great work! It's interesting that you mention the lightness of the buildings. It's something I think I'm aware of, particularly the way they catch the sunlight, but I hadn't really thought about it in terms of comparison to other places. Always so good to hear how a place looks to someone less familiar with it. Thank you!

It’s good to see these Finn. One of the joys here is that we can share such things. Thanks for the link to Chris - I like his work.
Thanks Michela, and thanks for sharing it. Really very much appreciated.
You're welcome Finn.

Dig the image set, thanks for sharing little insight into your world 🍻!
Thank you Cornelius!
Thanks Björn, I’m pleased they convey something of the backstreet Brighton vibe.
